The park is home to large breeding populations of elephants, wild water buffalo, and swamp deer. Compared to other protected areas in India, Kaziranga has achieved notable success!
It has been the theme of several books, songs, and documentaries. The park celebrated its centennial in 2005 after its establishment in 1905 as a reserve forest.
Rest of the day free at leisure. In the evening, we enjoy the local cultural Bihu dance.

After breakfast, check out from the hotel & drive towards Shillong, the capital & hill station of Meghalaya, one of the smallest states in India.
It is situated at an average altitude of 4,908 feet (1,496 m) above sea level, with the highest point being Shillong Peak at 6,449 feet (1,966 m).
It is said that the rolling hills around the town reminded the European settlers of Scotland, hence, it is known as "Scotland of the East".
It remained the capital of undivided Assam until the creation of the new state of Meghalaya on 21 January 1972, when Shillong became the capital of Meghalaya, and Assam moved its capital to Dispur in Guwahati.
Overnight stay in Shillong.
After breakfast, drive to Cherrapunjee, credited as being one of the wettest places on Earth. Although nearby Mawsynram currently holds the record, Cherrapunjee still holds the world record for the most rainfall in a calendar month and in a year.
It received 9,300 mm (366 in) of rain in July 1861 and 26,461 mm (1,041.75 in) between August 1860 and July 1861. Originally known as Sohra, the British pronounced it "Churra", which eventually evolved into Cherrapunjee, meaning 'Land of Oranges'.
Enroute, visit some local sightseeing spots in Shillong:
Shillong Peak: The highest point in Meghalaya (1,966 m above sea level), offering a panoramic view of Shillong.
Elephant Falls: Originally known as ‘Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew’ (meaning Three Steps Waterfall), named Elephant Falls by the British due to a nearby rock resembling an elephant, which was later destroyed in the 1897 earthquake.
In Cherrapunjee, visit:
Ramakrishna Mission School
Mawsmai Caves: One of the most accessible caves in Meghalaya, offering a glimpse into the state's vast cave systems.
Nohkalikai Falls: The tallest plunge waterfall in India (1,115 feet / 340 meters), named after a tragic local legend about a woman named Likai.
Overnight stay in Shillong
After breakfast, proceed to Mawlynnong village, also referred to as “God’s Own Garden”. It has won the accolade of being the cleanest village in Asia in 2003 as well as the cleanest village in India in 2005.
The community has made a collective effort to maintain the ambience of a clean village. The village offers picturesque natural beauty, including a trek to the living root bridge at the neighboring village Riwai.
The village also features a natural balancing rock—a strange phenomenon where a boulder is seen balancing on another rock.
